Introducing Mony
Today, I want to introduce you to one of the other contributors to the Walk Humbly Initiative.
Mr Som Chanmony is the Executive Director of Peace Bridges Organisation. Peace Bridges Organisation (PBO) is a Cambodian NGO that focuses on equipping communities with the skills they need to resolve conflict and acknowledge the long-term impacts of generational trauma and relational hurt. Their vision is “to see peaceful and harmonious communities living with respect for differences and resolving conflicts peacefully, creatively, and constructively.”
Peace Bridges has lots of connections to Australia. It was originally started in partnership with Australian workers and receives funding from Tearfund Australia, Global Interaction, Baptist World Aid/Transform Aid International and through the Australian government’s AID program.
Mony (pronounced Mo’Nee) has a real passion for helping people to build relationships that are strong, healthy and empower each other to be transformed and transform communities. He has a deep understanding of the missions and development sectors in Cambodia and is a deeply reflective practitioner. I have spent many hours attending training sessions run by Mony over the years. He has helped me understand Cambodian culture more deeply as well as the impact that outsiders are having on the development sector and church communities in Cambodia. Whether I am attending one of his training sessions, or simply catching up for coffee, I know that when I spend time with Mony, I am going to be made to think, and probably feel a bit uncomfortable, but come away wiser. I am always going to learn something and be encouraged by what PBO is doing. Mony has kindly agreed to be a regular contributor to this learning community, and I am excited to introduce you to Mony and his work in this first vlog. I’m sure it will give us plenty to discuss in the coming weeks.
